Texas College-Inspired Wedding at Messina Inn | Peyton + Matt

This is a wedding floral story about trusting the pros with your vision.

Peyton and Matt’s Messina Inn wedding was the union of an Aggie and a Longhorn - natural rivals. These two wanted their school colors, burnt orange and maroon, reflected in the colors at their wedding. However, instead of incorporating them into the wedding naturally by using the burnt orange in textiles and more natural colors in the flowers like the maroon and other accents, they expected all of the colors to be reflected in the flowers. They also expected the shades to be exact and thought we would shop for flowers together so they could choose exactly what they wanted. This is why we normally have a talk about decor and expectations as a whole way before the wedding.

Unfortunately, that wasn't an option because they were a part of an all-inclusive partnership with Messina Inn and our collaboration didn't happen early enough. Although there was doubt that we could execute their Texas school-inspired color story in the most cohesive way possible, we assured them we could make it happen. It took some convincing but once the bride saw the flowers, she was in love.

Understandably, there was pressure to bring these colors to life since they would be seen all throughout the wedding decor. In coordination with the teal used in the outfits, we used a variety of orange and red tones with hints of yellow to bring this Texas alumni color palette to life. From the arch spray and cake topper to the bouquets and boutonnieres, everything had to work together to match the essence of what they wanted. We used a carefully curated mix of sunset garden roses, burgundy peonies, cream roses, burgundy astilbe, orange marigolds, burgundy ranunculus, Kahala roses, and white anemones.

We do not use silk or spray paint flowers, so everything we do is natural or fed color in the water. It can be hard for clients to imagine how this will look, especially after deciding on what they want ahead of time. This was a perfect example of how they do not actually know what they need, even if they know what end result they want. That's what we're here for!

Nothing was what she specified, but everything was something she loved.
